Side Rafter Brackets
Side rafter brackets provide a flexible, high strength support solution for cast iron guttering. This type of bracket is often the ‘first choice’ support for a building offering clear access to the rafter feet.
With their simple, bar-shaped construction, it seems likely that this type of bracket is closely related to the sturdy ‘spike’ brackets that were used historically to support wooden gutters. This type of bracket is familiar to all experienced roofers. The bracket is forged from a length of steel bar, shaped at one end to match the profile of the guttering. Holes are pre-drilled in the flat, ‘arm’ of the bar, allowing it to be screwed to the side of a rafter.
Unlike a top rafter bracket, side-fixing means that this type of bracket can be fitted after tiling. The height and position of the side bracket can also be set for the best gutter alignment and fall gradient.
To improve resistance to corrosion and prolong life expectancy, our rafter brackets have a hard-wearing, galvanised coating. The silver coloured, zinc finish can be overpainted to match the guttering and fittings.
We stock a broad range of side rafter brackets designed to handle cast iron guttering diameters of 4 to 6 inches (100 to 150mm). Ogee profile side brackets are available in two popular sizes: 4.5 inch (112mm) and 5 inch (125mm). Side rafter brackets are also available to support UPVC guttering.
