Lead Expansion Joints
Refurbishing old lead-lined gutters is rarely a straightforward job. Eaves and parapet gutters with restricted falls are a particular problem. Do you opt for expensive alterations to the existing details, or choose the quick, low cost alternative offered by flexible lead expansion joints?
As with many innovations in roofing, expansion joints using neoprene were first used in central Europe before appearing on the UK roofing trade shelves in the 1990’s. While this type of joint isn’t able to match the 60 to 100 year life expectancy of traditional, step and drip gutters, it does deliver a minimum 20 years of maintenance-free service.
Installation is quick and straightforward, though it does require skilled welding to achieve watertight jointing. The flexible neoprene strip also needs the protection of a damp cloth to shield it from the flame during welding. All of this is well within the capability of any competent roofer with sheet-lead welding skills.
Along with top quality lead expansion joints from the leading UK manufacturers we also stock Code 5 and Code 6 lead flashing for the construction of lead-lined gutters. To finish the job we have a top-class patination oil from Midland. We offer these superb products at some of the best prices you’ll find online.
