Lead Fixing Strips
Cut your lead fixing strips from these professional 50mm rolls of copper or stainless steel. Lead fixing strips will prevent ‘lead drag’ where the weight of the flashings can pull the lead away from the wall. Fixing strips also help to prevent wind uplift on lead flashings installed on an exposed property.
The sheer weight of lead on any substantial flashing installation can eventually stretch and distort the leadwork. In severe cases this ‘lead drag’ can even pull the lead right out of the chasing. Lead fixing strips are nailed to the battens before fitting the flashing. During dressing, the ends of the fixing strips can be upturned, forming a ‘hook’ which helps to hold the lead in place. Just before pointing-in, about 25mm of the end of each lead fixing strip is trimmed, then bent back over the free edge of the lead. This forms a neat, flat, retaining hook.
Order these lead fixing strips to ensure a tidy, professional finish to apron flashing or lap joints. The fixing strips also help prevent long-term ‘lead drag’ problems and wind uplift in exposed locations. Choose copper to clip complex profiles, and stainless steel for flashings over glass.
