Conservation rooflights are designed to offer the bright interior styling of modern roof windows set in an external frame with a more traditional appearance.
While modern rooflight windows, like the famous VELUX range, offer brighter interior lighting and excellent ventilation, they are sometimes considered to be unsuitable for properties in conservation areas. To overcome this problem VELUX offer their roof windows with the option of a conservation rooflight package.
The package comes in the form of a complete rooflight installation kit, containing a high performance window along with a recessed flashing to connect the frame to the roof structure. These windows also feature a central glazing bar which gives the impression of dividing the single window into two individual panes. Some home-owners consider this traditional, two-pane look to be a more attractive option – even outside a conservation area. Glazing bars can be ordered as an inexepensive add-on after installation.
If you’re planning a loft conversion or similar home improvements in a conservation area it’s well worth contacting your local council. You may find that your building conservation officer will give VELUX conservation rooflights a stamp of approval.
